Simplonstrasse in Berlin-Friedrichshain was named after the Swiss Simplon Pass on September 15, 1906. Previously, Simplonstraße was part of Kopernikusstraße. Today it is part of the so-called Südkiez. This is one of the capital’s premier nightlife addresses. Young people in particular love the flair and don’t miss out on having breakfast, partying and living here. The central meeting point is the nearby Boxhagener Platz – “Boxi”, as Friedrichshainers and tourists affectionately call it. A weekly market has been held there for over 115 years – now on Saturdays. And on Sundays, the equally popular flea market sells everything from junk to retro and real rarities. An adventure playground delights the youngest residents of the neighborhood, whose parents like to take a breather on the benches and enjoy the shade of the trees in summer. In addition to galleries and hip stores, there are also various daycare centers and children’s stores as well as two elementary school and the well-known Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium just around the corner. The M10 and M13 streetcar lines run in the immediate vicinity, as does the U5 subway line. The Ringbahn is just a 14-minute walk away and if you prefer to drive, you can also be on one of the main transport routes in just a few minutes.
