Berlin is the new Capital of Cool and Friedrichshain has with the Simon-Dach-Kiez the trendiest trendy district of the city: The conditions for the residential complex at the Weberwiese couldn’t be better. After the renovation, the facades will shine again in the splendour of socialist classicism and stand in the best neighbourhood to the buildings on the magnificent boulevard of Karl-Marx-Allee. The complex has the undisputed potential to become an architectural statement with cult status – in the middle of the modern, urban Friedrichshain.
The architects leave nothing to chance, everything is examined in a restorative way. The floors are laid with fine linoleum from the English company Walton – following in the footsteps of Bauhaus tradition – and the tones are inspired by Le Corbusier’s colour keyboard. Alternatively, oak or bamboo parquet can be laid on the historic stonewood floor. The beautiful old door handles and fittings as well as the bakelite rotary switches also bring back memories of the fifties. The old wall tiles still existing in numerous bathrooms are being restored to their original condition.
